Repair of Fair-Faced Concrete Surface

Fair-Faced Concrete Repair with KEIM Mineral Based Potassium

Silicate Products

Surface Preparation is a necessary and absolutely recommended application for KEIM Mineral-based Potassium Sol-Silicate products as well as for any repair and protection of gross concrete surfaces. The first thing to do in this context is cleaning the surfaces. Cleaning of mold oil residues, cement currents, paint, rust, surface pollution, etc. on the surfaces with appropriate methods and equipment without damaging the concrete texture ensures the subsequent repair and surface protection applications to be more healthy and successful. It also helps to achieve an aesthetically more effective result. Surface cleaning methodology is recommended for each project by our company.

After surface repair, necessary surface cleaning, segragation repair, etc., with the use of KEIM Potassium Sol-Silicate concrete protection products, the surface has a mineral matte appearance just like natural concrete. Textures such as wooden mold marks are not only preserved but become an integral part of the surface as a result of the silicification process. This also protects against further deterioration due to bad weather conditions. According to the architectural design, the original concrete material may have more or less transparency and / or color appearance depending on the dilution ratio. While an important area of application is to compensate for color differences by using “concrete gray,, many architects also prefer to use KEIM mineral-based potassium sol-silicate paints in color and / or concrete color to protect concrete.

KEIM Potassium Mineral Based Sol-Silicate paints have been used extensively in northern Europe since 1878. Silicate paints penetrate and chemically interact with the mineral surface thanks to the appropriate combination of its binder which is inorganic color pigments of water glass and mineral-based fillers. It becomes a part of the surface to which it is applied rather than the coating.

However, KEIM silicate paints are not used for fair-faced concrete surfaces only for this purpose. It is also preferred in terms of its many advantages.

* Its binder, glass water, is highly resistant to UV light.
* Silicate paints have high water vapor permeability.
* Due to the extremely low Sd (H2 0) value (<0.02 m), the concrete dries again very quickly.
* The pigments used in silicate technology are non-organic mineral pigments and are not affected by bad weather due to UV radiation. Because of these properties, there is no swelling-spilling on concrete surfaces where silicate mineral paint is applied.
* Pure mineral pigments (Fb code B1) ensure absolute color fastness.
* Algae formation is not seen due to the presence of pure mineral pigments and rapid drying of the surfaces.
* Non-thermoplastic and anti-static binder ensures minimal contamination.
* Silicate mineral coatings have an excellent environmental profile, are non-flammable and do not release toxic gases. Our product groups recommended for repair of damaged areas are only light polymer modified, cement-bonded construction materials mixed with water.

Concrete Repairing With KEIM CONCRETAL Products

Short Range Repairing

KEIM Concretal Universal Mörtel S
It is possible to perform simple superficial repairs using only one product.
With one product ;
Corossion protection is provided.
Good adhesion without binding bridge.
Surface can be smoothed with retouching filler with high fine grain content.

After the surface cleaning, the surfaces to be applied should be wetted. Defects on the wetted surface can be filled with mineral-based KEIM Concretal Universal Mörtel – S without a special connecting bridge and corrosion protection. Layer thicknesses of 0.5 – 5 cm are possible. For multiple layers, the other layer can be applied after a thickness of approximately 2.5 cm. With KEIM Concretal Universal Mörtel S, surfaces can be smoothed directly.

As a Protection Coating;

Different options are available depending on the degree of protection and the desired finish;
If an opaque finish is desired, apply KEIM Concretal W and / or KEIM Concretal Lasur.
If a transparent matt and / or transparent gloss finish is desired, apply Concretal Lasur with the appropriate silicate diluent.

Wide Range Repairing

KEIM Concretal Mörter R – KEIM Concretal Feinspachtel – KEIM Concretal MHK
Components of this system, tested for all ZTV-ING applications and with general technical certification ;
KEIM Concretal MHK – Corrosion protection and connecting bridge
KEIM Concretal Mörter R – Concrete repair mortar
KEIM Concretal Feinspachtel – Leveling and filling mortar

Surface Preparation;

Rusted steel reinforcement should be showed up before application. The steel reinforcement must be cleaned by blasting at Sa 2.5 in accordance with DIN EN 12944-4. Rust-free reinforcement should be applied two coats of KEIM Concretal MHK protective coating. There should be a minimum of 3 hours between the coatings. The first coating should be applied immediately after rust removal.

After prewetting, scrub the surfaces vigorously and apply KEIM Concretal MHK to act as a bonding bridge. Fill the defective areas with KEIM Concretal Mörter R. Layer thicknesses of 0.5 – 5 cm are suitable. For multiple layers, the other layer can be applied after a thickness of approximately 2.5 cm. Level the substrate with KEIM Concretal Feinspachtel in the slightly pre-wetted substrate and bring the textures to bear. Layer thicknesses of 1-4 mm are possible.

As a protection coating,

Different options are available depending on the degree of protection and the desired finish;
• If an opaque finish is desired, apply KEIM Concretal W.
• If a transparent matt and / or transparent gloss finish is desired, apply Concretal Lasur with the appropriate silicate diluent.
